Here she is, enjoy! Hey everyone, it’s Lesley here again. I must admit, the moment I saw the Cartwheel Wrap Dress pattern, it immediately caught my attention. My two-year-old daughter is currently in that adorable phase where she insists on dressing herself, which often leads to hilarious mornings filled with mismatched outfits. To minimize these wardrobe meltdowns, I decided to transform the Cartwheel Wrap Dress into a reversible version. This way, we’d have two different looks in one dress, making mornings a little less stressful. My initial attempt involved creating a single skirt with bias binding to conceal the seams. Unfortunately, it didn’t hang properly, which defeated the purpose of the dress since the whole idea is to allow freedom of movement—like cartwheels! So, I went back to the drawing board and opted for a double-sided skirt design, mirroring the bodice. Fabric selection played a crucial role here. I chose two cotton fabrics of similar weight and drape—both salvaged from old duvet covers—and pre-washed them thoroughly to avoid any post-construction shrinkage issues. One side features a pink gingham print with a contrasting tie, while the other has a funky gray abstract pattern. Now, I’ll admit, I’m usually pretty casual about ironing my fabric during sewing projects. However, for a reversible dress, precision is key. Take your time pressing each piece to ensure symmetry on both sides—it makes all the difference in the final outcome. Using the burrito method for the bodice is truly ingenious. Trust me, attempting this technique late at night on a small phone screen with low battery is not ideal. Save yourself the headache! One last tip: if your toddler is anything like mine and tends to get messy at family gatherings, simply flip the dress inside out. Problem solved!
