my favorite oliver + s pattern: class picnic blouse + shorts

Anne is back with us again today, and we couldn't be happier! Over the years, she's shared some fantastic tutorials with us, including her Pom Pom Skirt and Customizing the Sunny Day Shorts guides. Today, she’s returning to talk about one of her favorite Oliver + S patterns. Thank you so much for joining us again, Anne! ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Blouse + Shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/e927e7f3d691d8af0b5eee62c3bcc222.jpg) When asked to share her favorite Oliver + S pattern, Anne didn't need much time to decide. While there are countless incredible patterns in their collection, one stands out above the rest for her. It’s the very first pattern she ever tried from Oliver + S—the Class Picnic Blouse + Shorts. Her daughter was just 18 months old when Anne made the shorts and top using this pattern. At the time, she was fairly new to sewing, and none of her previous projects had fit her daughter quite right. But when she stumbled across the Oliver + S website, she was instantly drawn to the Class Picnic Blouse + Shorts. The mock wrap on the shorts particularly caught her attention. She purchased a digital copy and got to work. ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/12378d0485041b15da3dbbf381cabb92.jpg) ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/d8dbfc7715c61b705013e9a3391092b4.jpg) For these initial pieces, Anne used Robert Kaufman Essex yarn-dyed linen, and she fell in love with the final result. She couldn’t believe how well it fit and how great it looked. Encouraged by this success, she quickly made a yellow gingham Class Picnic Blouse next. ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Blouse + Shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/8f05510457bb3dadd1e42c20a784a7fb.jpg) She recalls loving the blouse even more once it was completed. The elastic at the shoulders, the ¾-length sleeves, and the loose, flowing fit made this pattern her absolute favorite! Six years and two children later, Anne still feels the same way about this pattern. She continues to sew it for her daughter, and every time, she’s thrilled with the outcome. Some of her most cherished creations for her daughter have come from this pattern. ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/603dcc6682c850def46bd5cb868f9c03.jpg) ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/c016ba7070831ab7cfbf582782b4546e.jpg) Her second pair of shorts was made from a bright pink eyelet fabric. Her daughter adored these shorts and wore them constantly, prompting Anne to make a third pair that same summer. This time, she chose khaki fabric with orange topstitching. ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/0e00c798334aa7f0340aa83209616daf.jpg) These slate blue linen shorts might just be her favorite version yet. The Class Picnic Shorts are incredibly versatile, but Anne loves making them from linen the most. The details of the shorts make them timeless—they always look classic, never go out of style, and add a polished touch to any outfit. ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/1d81925fa162c002d422781533b1b3a4.jpg) ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Shorts](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/a89d18975c39b773a32f04525c559ff9.jpg) Not long ago, Anne decided to revisit the Class Picnic Blouse. She made only a few changes this time around—lengthening the top, adding a ruffle to the sleeves, and incorporating some pockets. ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Blouse](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/06d5c36fa49f27061dacdf9fbcd2d313.jpg) ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Blouse](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/415d2b203cfa331a41041178e563337d.jpg) The yokes provided the perfect opportunity to play around with the fabric print. Anne decided to cut them on the bias to create a chevron effect. ![Oliver + S Class Picnic Blouse](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/200b7c3344e11530b05baca7e258a1c5.jpg) There you have it—Anne’s all-time favorite pattern.
