Last year, the export of fabric fibers and imported clothing in Kansai, Japan increased significantly
In 2010, the Kansai region of Japan saw a significant boost in its foreign trade volume, reaching a total of $299.171 billion. This marked a 25.4% increase compared to 2009, with exports rising by 27.3% and imports growing by 23.2%. The trade surplus also improved dramatically, reaching $34.458 billion, which was a 45.6% rise from the previous year.
Looking at the major export categories, most showed positive growth, with the exception of steel, which experienced a decline. Notably, products such as plastics, textiles, filaments, and scientific optical equipment saw substantial increases, highlighting strong demand for these goods in international markets.
On the import side, all of the top 10 products recorded year-on-year growth. Among them, natural and synthetic gas, crude oil, audio-visual equipment, and spare parts saw particularly large increases. Meanwhile, clothing and accessories remained the most imported category, making up 8.0% of total imports and rising by 8.1% compared to 2009.
This overall growth reflected the resilience of the Kansai region's economy during a period of global recovery, as well as the continued strength of its manufacturing and trade sectors.
