Last year, the export of fabric fibers and imported clothing in Kansai, Japan increased significantly
In 2010, the Kansai region of Japan saw a significant rebound in its foreign trade volume, reaching a total of $299.171 billion, which marked a 25.4% increase compared to 2009. This growth was driven by both exports and imports, with exports rising by 27.3% and imports increasing by 23.2%. As a result, the region's trade surplus reached $34.458 billion, up by a notable 45.6% from the previous year.
Looking at the major export categories, most products showed positive growth, except for steel, which experienced a slight decline. Notably, sectors such as plastics, textiles, filaments, and scientific optical equipment recorded substantial increases, reflecting strong demand for these goods globally.
On the import side, all of the top 10 imported products saw year-on-year growth. Among them, natural and synthetic gas, crude oil, audio-visual equipment, and spare parts saw particularly sharp increases. Meanwhile, clothing and accessories remained the largest single category, accounting for 8.0% of total imports, with an 8.1% rise in volume. These figures highlight the Kansai region’s continued role as a key player in international trade, especially in manufacturing and consumer goods.
