"China Glasses Quality ***" Editorial Committee Meeting Held

From November 29 to December 1, 2010, the third session of the third edition of the “China Glasses Quality Report” editorial meeting took place in Nanao, Guangdong. The event brought together key industry figures, including Mr. Sun Environmental Protection, Deputy Director of the National Glass Enamel Product Quality Supervision and Inspection and Quarantine Center; Zhang Nini, Director of China Optical Technology Magazine; He Qing and Mao Wei, heads of quality inspection at Beijing Glasses; Zhao Mufu, Secretary General of the Xiamen Optical Association; and representatives from quality inspection stations across the country. Mr. Sun Environmental Protection chaired the meeting and emphasized that the fourth edition of the “China Glasses Quality Report” (hereinafter referred to as the Report) has officially commenced. He noted that the Report has gained increasing recognition within the industry, with its editorial team expanding and content coverage becoming more comprehensive. Its authority continues to grow, making it an essential reference for eyewear companies when assessing the Chinese optical market. Additionally, the Report plays a significant role in guiding companies through the numerous laws, regulations, and policies released during this period. In this sense, the Report serves not only as a reference book but also holds substantial practical value for the industry. However, Sun pointed out several areas that require improvement. Some quality inspection reports are not written strictly according to the required templates, resulting in vague or incomplete content. Others lack detailed analysis of the root causes of issues, and some spot-check reports are too general. Furthermore, the data on production licenses of eyewear companies is often insufficient, and the overall product quality evaluation in the reports is lacking. The quality analysis of glasses in the wholesale market is also limited in depth and breadth. From a structural perspective, the report lacks visual elements and updates, and there is little change in the format. Moreover, consumer complaints from around the world are almost entirely absent. During the editing process, some staff members were not proactive, and a few editorial board members failed to meet deadlines. In response to these challenges, Mr. Sun outlined specific requirements for the fourth edition. He emphasized that all submissions must follow the template guidelines, ensure accuracy, and reflect the true state of the local eyewear industry. Key topics such as production license information, post-certification supervision, and consumer quality complaints must be included. During the meeting, participants expressed enthusiasm and shared their insights. They agreed that the Report has become a crucial resource for in-depth market research, especially for large eyewear retailers. Discussions focused on the new analysis panel addressing consumer complaints. Members of the editorial board highlighted the importance of strengthening communication with industry associations, consumer organizations, and quality supervision departments. They also called for greater attention to pressing issues such as improper prescriptions, incorrect fittings, high complaint rates from local eye hospitals, and the growing number of student-related nearsightedness complaints. The fourth edition of the “China Glasses Quality Report” (2010 Quality Inspection Report) is expected to be published in June 2011.
